1. Install the cages with mice in a well-ventilated area.
A male can emit a musky smell to mark his territory, and the presence of a large number of males in one cage can lead to a very unpleasant smell.
2. Place the cells where the temperature is constantly maintained at 22 – 30 degrees Celsius.
Keeping mice at unsuitable temperatures can lead to no offspring or the occurrence of diseases.
3. Add sawdust to the bottom of the cells.
If you want to save money, buy sawdust in large packages, instead of buying them often in small batches at pet stores.
Keeping cells clean will increase the likelihood of reproduction.
4. Buy food for mice or rodents and drinkers in each cage.
Fresh water must be given daily.
Proper food and enough water will maintain the health of the mice, which also increases the chance of their breeding.
5. Start breeding mice when they are young.
Females can breed after reaching the age of 6 weeks, males – at 8 weeks. If you are not in a hurry, it is better to wait for the moment when females are 12 weeks old, at this age a stronger offspring is obtained.
Males usually stop breeding at the age of about one year. Stop breeding a female when she is 8 months old. After this age, the likelihood of mortality increases.
6. Determine the sex of each mouse.
From 2 weeks of age, the nipples become visible in the female. Male nipples are not visible.
7. Place one male in a cage with several females.
Usually it is good to use 2-4 females per 1 male.
Do not cage several males with females. Males will fight, often to death. In the process of fighting males, both females and mice can suffer.
